India's foreign ministry says it is looking into an alleged attack on a Nigerian student by a local man in the southern city of Hyderabad. 26-year-old Bamilola Kazim was allegedly assaulted by Mohammed Gafoor after a row on Wednesday, May 25. He was treated for wounds at a local hospital and released. Last week a student from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Masunda Kitada Oliver was beaten to death by a group of Indian men after an argument in Delhi. Two men have been arrested in connection with the killing of the Congolese man. Indian foreign ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup tweeted on Friday that Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj "had urgently sought report" on Wednesday's incident from the local government "and is monitoring the case". Police said Mr Kazim allegedly parked his car in front of Mr Gafoor's house, and was attacked with an iron rod by the latter after an altercation. One of the African migrants rescued from the Mediterranean sea went into labour aboard MSF Sea rescue ship, Aquarius and gave birth to a baby boy yesterday, May 25. The proud father (on the left) named him Alex after the ship's captain (on the right). Both mother and child are in good health.

The Kogi state chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Onuh Eboka has been fired by the state government. The government claims Edoka was identified as a ghost worker during the just concluded staff verification exercise. The government also said those that were sacked did not furnish the verification committee with relevant documents. According to Gbenga Olorunpomi, the aide to the Governor of Kogi state, Yahaya Bello, “For example, many of them refused to supply their BVNs [Bank Verification Numbers]. This automatically brings up the question of why they don’t have BVNs if they don’t have anything to hide. “The governor has assured the people that no legitimate worker in Kogi state will be sacked. But there are some people who got into the system fraudulently. An agency of the Federal Government, the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI), has revealed that Dangote Industries Limited generates more mineral resource revenue for the government than the rest of the nation put together. In its reports made available to the press yesterday, Dangote Cement was responsible for 53 per cent of the government revenue, that is, N15.9 billion of the total N33.86 billion accrued that year to the Federal Government. The report revealed that 93 per cent of the total government revenues from solid minerals sector were from five companies: Dangote, WAPCO, Ashaka Cement, Unicem, CCNN and others. The report states that: “53 per cent of the country’s revenue from the solid minerals sector was paid by Dangote Cement Plc to the Federal Government.” NEITI says Nigeria has about 52 solid mineral resources across all states of the federation, with every state possessing at least two mineral resources. The Ministers in Buhari's cabinet have been reported to be having accommodation issues in the high-profile area of Abuja due to the exorbitant cost of renting or buying houses as against the funds earmarked for housing allowances. Ibe Kachikwu, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum has said that President Muhammadu Buhari’s ministers have no accommodation, confirming an exclusive report by SIGNAL, which detailed how President Buhari walked out on a meeting where Ministers had demanded for decent accommodation. According to the minister in a video footage, President Buhari has been unable to solve the problem of accommodation bedeviling his ministers. NAFDAC Seals Bakeries & Sachet Water Factories In Kaduna   The National Agency for Food, Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Tuesday sealed two bakeries and four sachet water factories during a routine inspection in Kaduna. Naijapals reports that the affected bakeries include, A One bread at Kakuri, and Goodies bakery in Trikania, while the sachet water factories include Alvan, Ubas, De-Rias and Simfort in Kaduna metropolis. The state Coordinator of NAFDAC, Mr Dadi Mullah who led the team, said some of the closed factories did not meet the minimum requirements to operate, while others were not registered with the agency.
