  Femi Hamzat, former Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure in Lagos State has emerged as the running-mate to the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in next year’s governorship election in Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu. Hamzat, who had aspired to be governor twice, stepped down for Sanwo-Olu to emerge as the party’s candidate before the primaries. He had also served as a Commissioner in the Ministry of Science & Technology, in Lagos from August 2005 till until June 2011.   The Duke and Duchess of Sussex touched down in Melbourne today for the third day of their Royal tour of Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, andTonga. Meghan Markle arrived in a navy blue dress by Australian designer Dion Lee paired with Manolo Blahnik BB navy stilettos before changing into a black buttoned Club Monaco dress and flats when it was time to hit the beach. The royal couple visited the Government House in Melbourne where they were greeted by Victorian Governor Linda Dessau. They also visited Melbourne's Royal Botanic Gardens. After Meghan changed outfits, she and her husband gracefully made their way onto the tram in Melbourne, along with student leaders at a local school. Mother tries drowning 6-month-old daughter on livestream to punish the baby's father (video)

A mother has gone viral after she filmed herself attempting to drown her 6-month-old daughter to get back at the baby's father. The Atlanta mother, who has been named as Quanda, was upset that her baby's father had not made timely child support payments, so she decided to make him suffer by making their innocent child suffer. Quanda, while chatting with the baby's father, filmed herself placing the baby in a bath filled with water while crying and screaming, "Is this what you want?". The baby can also be seen struggling to come up for air as her mother kept dunking her in water. Below is a screenshot of the text between Quanda and her baby daddy and the horrific video.

Testing girls for virginity violates their human rights - United Nations

  A group of United Nations agencies has issued a joint statement calling for a ban on tests meant to assess the virginity of any female. The statement, issued during the World Congress of Gynaecology and Obstetrics in Brazil, stressed that such tests are both unscientific, and a violation of human rights. The UN agencies are: the UN Human Rights Office, UN Women and the World Health Organisation. The group said, “so-called virginity testing also often referred to as hymen, two-fingers or per vaginal examination is a gynaecological inspection of female genitalia carried out in the false belief that it can reliably determine whether a woman or girl has had vaginal intercourse'. In a global call to eliminate violence against women and girls everywhere, the UN agencies said that “this medically unnecessary, and often times painful, humiliating and traumatic practice, must end.” The practice is a long-standing tradition documented in at least 20 countries,

'Fayose won't succumb to EFCC's media trial, his will remains strong' - Aide, Lere Olayinka

  As the immediate past governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose still remains in EFCC custody, his Media Aide, Lere Olayinka has said that the former governor has maintained his denial of all the allegations made against him and insisted that he be charged to court. "Today is his second day in EFCC custody and I can say that his spirit is high and his will remains very strong," he said. Olayinka, who said the EFCC must stop acting irresponsibly by subjecting Nigerians to media trial whenever they lacked concrete evidence to sustain court trial, added that "the commission has started its usual lies by claiming that it discovered houses bought by Fayose with public fund." He said "nigerians should recall that in 2016, operatives of this same EFCC attempted to seal up a guest house located at Gana Street, Maitama, Abuja, claiming that it belonged to Fayose. Whereas, the building belonged to a retired army general." Olayinka said

Grandmother charged with first-degree murder after baby was found stabbed and placed in hot oven

  A grandmother has been arrested after her granddaughter was stabbed and placed into a hot oven. The baby was found on Monday night and Carolyn Jones, 48, was arrested on Tuesday. The Mississipi grandmother is charged with first-degree murder for the death of her granddaughter in Shaw, Mississipi, Bolivar County Sheriff Kelvin Williams confirmed to NBC News on Tuesday. The victim, 20-month-old Royalty Marie Floyd, was found by a relative who then contacted the Shaw Police Department. Upon arriving at the scene, the police contacted the Bolivar County Sheriff's Office for assistance. Royalty was living with her grandmother before her death. It is unclear where the girl's parents were at the time. Jones had a court appearance Tuesday evening and was given a $500,000 bond. International Committee of the Red Cross raise alarm after 3 young nurses working with them were abducted; one killed while the other two risk death

Peter Maurer, the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, ICRC, has called out for the intervention of the government of Nigeria after three young female nurses working with them were abducted and one of them was killed while the other two lives are at risk. According to Mr Maurer, a  24-year-old midwife named Hauwa (pictured above) was abducted since March alongside another midwife named Saifura and a nurse named Alice. All three women dedicated their lives to helping others in northern Nigeria. Two weeks ago, Saifura was brutally executed by their abductors. Hauwa and Alice who are still alive risk being killed too. According to Maurer, Hauwa could be executed in a few hours if help doesn't come to them. He's appealing to the government to intervene and see that they are released soon. See his tweets below.
