Photo: 55-year-old foodstuff dealer arrested with 250 cartridges

Operatives of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested a man with 250 cartridges hidden in several cartons in Benue State. The suspect is identified as a 55-year-old foodstuff trader based in Jalingo, Taraba State who traveled regularly to Onitsha to buy food items which he sells at a market in Jalingo. He told Daily Trust that officials of the NDLEA intercepted the vehicle he was traveling in at Alaide in Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State. "I was returning from Onitsha where I went to buy foodstuff which I sell in Taraba when the NDLEA officers arrested me in Alaide with cartons of cartridges which some vigilante groups asked me to buy for them," the suspect said. The suspect, a father of five, also said he was diabetic, pointing at a deep wound on his feet, expressed regret for his action. "I’m so embarrassed. My wife and children are not happy with me." Rap mogul Jay Z has released a new song titled 'Spiritual' in response to the recent police killings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile. In a strongly worded statement, Jay Z said he wrote the song a year ago knowing that it won't be the last time a black person would be killed by police officers. In a statement Jay Z said: 'I made this song a year or so ago, I never got to finish it. Anambra PDP: Judge strikes out suit challenging Oduah, Ubah candidacies

Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal High Court Abuja has struck out the suit instituted against senators Stella Oduah and others over the legitimacy of their candidacies in the 2015 National Assembly elections in the State. The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have asked the Federal Court in Abuja to dismiss a legal action challenging the validity of the primary election of PDP that produced Senators Andy Ubah, Stella Oduah and others as candidates for the 2015 National Assembly elections. The electoral body and PDP claimed that the legal action instituted by Senator Annie Okonkwo and 43 others is a gross abuse of the court on the grounds that the issues raised by the plaintiffs had already been resolved by the Supreme Court. Okonkwo and 43 others had through their lawyers; Chief Asam Asam SAN dragged INEC, Ubah, Oduah and 16 others who are lawmakers in the National and Anambra State House of Assembly

The remains of former Presidential aspirant, Umaru shinkafi who died at a hospital in London on Wednesday July 6th, arrived Sokoto International airport this morning and was received by the state governor, Aminu Tambuwal, Zamfara state governor AbdulAzeez Yari and other Northern state governors. Shinkafi died after battling multiple diseases that affected his internal organs. He is survived by three wives and five children. One of his daughters Zainab Bagudu is the first lady of Kebbi state while another of his daughters, Hadiza Yari is married to Zamfara state governor, AbdulAzeez Yari.

Tragedy In Ogun State As Cultist Unleash Mayhem, Kills 11 To Mark Anniversary (Photos)

11 persons have been killed by suspected cult members in Igode and Fakale communities in the Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State. Four persons were also injured while houses and cars were vandalised in the attack that lasted for about 10 hours. Punch Metro learnt that the hoodlums, said to be Aye Confraternity members, had gone on the rampage at about 11am on Wednesday to commemorate their anniversary tagged 7/7. The grand finale of the anniversary was reportedly held on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at Emuren, a neighbouring community. It gathered that the hoodlums, numbering about 25 on motorcycles, came from Emuren, wielding guns and cutlasses. Their targets were said to be members of the Eiye Confraternity, a rival cult.The bandits, who reportedly wore masks, shot dead three welders at a junction bordering Emuren and Igode.
