Kano state government uncovers $1million allegedly stashed in Ukraine by ex-state governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso

  Kano state government says it has discovered the sum of over $1 million allegedly paid by former governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to a University in Ukraine where no Kano state student was studying. According to The Nation, the senior Special Assistant to Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, on Higher Education, Dr. Hussaini Akilu Jarma, made the disclosure during the inauguration of the State Scholarship Disbursement Committee yesterday August 14th. Jarma said the questionable payment was made by Kwankwaso as part of his foreign scholarship programme. ''FG has no hand in the calls for Saraki’s resignation or impeachment'' Lai Mohammed

  The Federal Government has distanced itself from the calls for Senate President Bukola Saraki to resign or be impeached following his defection from APC to PDP. Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed said this during a visit to Blueprints Newspaper in Abuja yesterday. According to Lai, the call for Saraki's removal was purely a party affair and that the government had no hand in it. He however pointed out that the party's call for Saraki's removal was legitimate. Dano Milk officially enters the Guinness World Records

Arla Foods in Nigeria, makers of the well-known Dano range of dairy products, have been officially presented with a certificate for achieving the world record of the Longest Drinks Pouring Relay by the Guinness World Records organization. This record was achieved in a massive event that held on the 1st of June this year at the Muri Okunola Park in Victoria Island, Lagos. In setting the record, Arla Foods organized the winning relay event with 650 people using Dano UHT milk to achieve this feat. The event, which drew both government and non-governmental nutrition stakeholders, also featured a notable collection of celebrities featuring OC Ukeje, Omawumi, Lamide Akintobi, Eyinna Nwigwe, Mai Atafo, Lala Akindoju, Chuey Chu and Gbemi O. Speaking at the official presentation of the certificate, Arla Foods Marketing Manager, Ifunanya Obiakor, lauded the efforts of the team who worked tirelessly to achieve the record event. Unknown gunmen kill ex- Prisons Controller in his farm

  The Nigeria Prisons Service (NPS) has confirmed the death of a former Assistant Controller-General of Prisons, Nanvyet Gwali. The Public Relations Officer of Nigeria Prisons Service, Francis Enobore, confirmed the death of Gwali in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja. Enobore said that Gwali was murdered by yet to be identified gunmen on Aug. 10 at his farm in Laminga, near keffi, Nasarawa State. The deceased transferred his services from Plateau Ministry of Education to NPS in 1989 as a Superintendent of Prisons and rose to the rank of Deputy Controller-General of Prisons. He retired in February 2016 as Deputy Controller-General of Prisons in-charge of Finance and Accounts. Enobore said that the service was in touch with the relevant security agencies who were on the trail of the perpetrators of the crime to ensure that they were brought to justice.

Amnesty International reacts to Nigeria's new directive to overhaul SARS

  International Human rights organisation, Amnesty International has lauded the directive by Nigeria’s Vice President Yemi Osinbajo for the total overhaul of the country’s Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). Yemi Osinbajo who is currently in acting capacity as the President of Nigeria gave the directive on Tuesday after prolonged public outcry against the rogue police unit. Responding to the news, Director of Amnesty International Nigeria Osai Ojigho said: “this is an overdue yet hugely important move by Acting President Osinbajo. The growing outcry over the brutality of Nigeria’s notorious SARS police unit has finally got the attention of the country’s authorities". “While this is positive news, it is crucial that any overhaul of SARS is far-reaching and immediately effective. Two notorious traffic bandits who have been terrorising road users along Maza Maza/Mile 2 road have been nabbed by the undercover operatives of the Lagos state police command posted to provide security for commuters along that route.  The two robbers, David Mike Okon, 32 years pictured right and Ibe Okonne, 27 years, who had been on the watch list of the command  were arrested on the 11th of August, 2018 while robbing a lady identified simply as Oluwatosin around Mile 2. They had succeeded in dispossessing their victim of her phone and other valuables before they were arrested by the eagle eyed policemen attached to Raider team, Area E Command, Festac town, who had observed uneasiness in the woman's encounter with the suspects. Authorities have arrested four witch doctors over alleged ritual killing in Nagalama, Uganda. The witch doctors Junior Kibuuka, Fred Kiiza Semanda, Wamala Muhammed and Owen Sebuyungo were arrested after a disappearance report was filed at Nagalama Police Station, by relatives of one Mirembe Zuraika.  Confirming the arrests, Jesca Naawe , the Assistant Superintendent of Police said: “They tipped off police that she had been last communicated of her appointment with one Owen Sebuyungo, a 24-year-old witch doctor.” In his statement, Sebuyungo narrated that Mirembe visited his shrine for help since she had been possessed by spirits. Sebuyungo reportedly then contacted his spiritual consultant, a renowned witch doctor, Mohammed Wamala alias Bob who persuaded him to murder the victim.
