Customs impound over 1,000 bags of rice hidden inside petrol tanker in Kaduna (photos)
The Nigeria Customs Service, Kaduna state command have intercepted a
tanker stacked with various brands of foreign parboiled rice numbering
over 1,000 bags.
The Comptroller of Customs Federal Operation Unit zone ‘B’ Kaduna, Usman Dakingari, made this known to newsmen at the command's office in the state capital. He said the rice smugglers stacked thousands of bags of rice in the petrol tanker to give the impression that they were transporting petroleum products.
He noted that the smugglers were arrested after intelligence
information and regular surveillance by customs officials in Kaduna
State.
This arrest comes one month after the Federal government placed a ban on the importation of rice.
